BGML, Transformations of Bond Graph Model Descriptions and Building XML based Bond Graph Component Model Libraries

In two previous publications, Borutzky proposed a novel, top-down XML schema for the description of bond graph models that aims at supporting their exchange and reuse between various bond graph and non-bond graph software. This new XML application is called Bond Graph Markup Language (BGML). This paper presents some extensions to the BGML schema. In particular, the exchange of component models and the building of XML based Bond Graph component model libraries is supported. Moreover, transformations between XML descriptions of bond graph models as well as transformations between XML and formats not based on XML are discussed. As a result, it is believed that it is not absolutely necessary to agree on a unique XML format for the exchange of bond graph models. Given that schemas are provided, transformations from and to XML are considered feasible and sufficient. As an example, it is shown how the query language XQuery, recently standardised by the W3 Consortium, can be used to transform BGML into SIDOPS, the underlying modelling language of 20sim~(TM). Finally, as another option, a bottom-up design of an XML schema for describing bond graph models as well as relations to an object oriented description of bond graph models are discussed.
