Designing and installing Pipeline Systems for hte harsh environment West of Shetlands has presented a number of difficult challenges and hard lessons have had to be learnt. This paper provides an overview of the Foinaven and Schiehallion pipeline systems and will emphasise where lessons learned on Fonaven have been successfully implemented on Schiehallion. With over three years combiend operational experience for the two fields lessons are still being learned. The paper will also highlight how problems inherited fro mthe installation phase are being managed and briefly touch on the challenges of the future.
