Massive concrete elements are occasionally casted in different stages. Along with accounting forrnthe safe transmission of shear flow between the different casted stages, the constraint imposed byrnthe hardened concrete to the newly casted concrete is to be considered. This may require specialrnreinforcement to avoid propagated cracks due to shrinkage as well as thermal effects. The demandrnof adding shrinkage reinforcement was revealed through parametric study accounting forrngeometrical, construction, material, and environmental parameters. For this purpose finiternelement analysis was incorporated in which time-dependent material characteristic is accountedrnfor. Moreover, heat of hydration as well as shrinkage is modeled. The prediction of the tensilernstresses is carried out and accordingly the reinforcement demand is highlighted.
