Air added to high-speed chute flows is known to reduce the potential of cavitationrndamage at the chute floor. Therefore hydraulic model experiments using advancedrnfiber optical instrumentation were conducted to investigate two-phase flows withrnregard to air detrainment. Two different set-ups for air addition to water flow werernstudied, namely: (1) Pre-aerated discharge supply, and (2) Chute aerator. Differencesrnbetween the two set-ups are outlined and discussed. A summary of measurementsrnis presented to determine the reduction of mean air concentration along thernchute.
