The relationship between oil & gas companies and therngovernment is always important especially when dealing withrnthe environment in an emerging country. This paper willrndescribe the activities and achievements of the Egyptianrngovernment and the Petroleum Industry EnvironmentalrnProtection Committee (PIEPC), a committee formed by therninternational exploration and production companies in Egyptrnover seven years ago. The role of PIEPC is to promoternimproved environmental conservation standards andrnawareness in the oil and gas industry in Egypt. Therncommittee’s significant achievements to date and its goals forrnthe future will be described. The paper will show how arncommittee representing different international oil and gasrncompanies, operating in a growing country, can workrnsuccessfully together with the government for the bettermentrnof the environment and the host country as a whole.
