Interactive Multimedia Compact Disc (IMCD): A New Tool in Transfer of Farm Technology

Computer multimedia will offer learners more complete and individual control over theirrnlearning. The main reason behind recommending the use of computer based multimediarnsystem for farmers is to facilitate interactivity and better understanding betweenrnindividual learners and the subject matter. Multimedia tools are ideally suited torndemonstrate complex and dynamic process that cannot be explained easily withrnconventional media and methods. Multimedia systems combine a variety of informationrnsources into a variety of applications. The personal computer brings to this entire mediarntwo other important functions, the ability to present this media in an integrated way andrnin an interactive way. Information services to farmers should be improved through therncreative use of the Information Technology (IT). National media like radio and televisionrncovers the agricultural issues only at macro level because of time shortage. The staternmedia looks after regional disparities in agriculture. Multimedia can go a step further byrnproviding the individual solutions round the clock in local language by creatingrnknowledge tree using audio and video clippings. Keeping this in mind a sepecificrnobjective was fixed, to develop a farmer friendly Interactive Multimedia Compact Discrn(IMCD) on selected farm technology. The major criterion considered for the selection ofrnfarm technology was that should be new and intense menace. Accordingly, "Integratedrnpackages for the Management of Coconut Eryophid Mite" was selected. Among therndifferent softwares available, Microsoft Office 2000 Power Point was selectedrnspecifically for the study purpose. This software possesses number of unique featuresrnsuch as simple operation; create highly interactive multimedia presentation etc. ThernIMCD was developed with the action buttons, text, audio, video clippings, pictures andrnphotographs. Finally certain instructions were given on the cover page of the CD as wellrnas beginning pages of IMCD related to how to operate and use IMCD and computers byrnthe farmers.
