THE TORQUE LIMITING GEARBOX (TLG) SYSTEM: EARLY FIELD EXPERIENCEIN NEW ZEALAND'S EXTREME WIND REGIME

In July 2003 the first large scale grid connected wind turbine generator manufactured in NewrnZealand was officially opened at Gebbies Pass, Christchurch, New Zealand. The Windflow 500rnuses two new technologies: the two bladed pitch-teeter coupled rotor and the torque limitingrngearbox (TLG) system.rnThis paper focuses on the TLG system which has two main advantages, more effective torquerncontrol than electrical VS systems and the use of a synchronous generator directly on line.
