To achieve sustainable products, the use of resources should be reduced and emissions minimized. This requires the optimization of resource use and environmental impact throughout the product's life cycle. Aiming to diminish emissions and reduce the material use -especially concerning metals- the life cycle of an average passenger car was described using LCA software. This work is part of an Interfaculty Project, "DIOC 16 - Smart product systems", in which different faculties participate, contributing their expertise to develop a more comprehensive knowledge of all the challenges involved with the development of more sustainable product systems. To analyze the consequences of using different indicators, some of the environmental indicators developed until now were applied. The results and the differences and similarities of the several approaches are discussed and recommendations for the use of these indicators are given.
