The flow inside the suction chamber of a compressor, which is piston type for automotive air-conditioner, is solved numerically using the panel method, and the velocity distributions and the time variations of the pressure are calculated during the seven pistons moving. The flow visualization is also conducted inside the suction chamber and the velocity distributions are obtained using the particle image velocimetry system. The calculated velocity distributions are compared with the experimental results and the developed program in the present study is found to be very useful to predict the velocity distributions inside the suction chamber of a compressor. Furthermore the time variation of the pressure distributions inside the suction chamber is also calculated when the seven pistons move at the same time. We can design the new shape of the suction chamber of a compressor for automotive air-conditioner using this program to prevent the noise and the pressure fluctuation.
