SIMPLE METHOD FOR EVALUATING THE CORROSIVENESS OF INDOOR ENVIRONMENTS USING A METAL PLATE

We have developed a method that can evaluate sulfur and chlorine accumulations on silver and copper plates every month for a year. This method combines a corrosive-gas collecting device (an atmospheric recorder), with elemental analysis using electron probe microanalysis. We obtained good correlation between the accumulated amounts on metal plates with the existing method and with our recorder method for both sulfur and chlorine. We also evaluated the corrosiveness in a machine room over two years using our method. We found there was a significant seasonal change in the sulfur accumulation in both the first and second years.
