摘要

This paper presents a new concept for real-time remote monitoring of ship motions. The system consists of several sensors and a PC-based software system. The measured data are transferred to a grand facility through the Maritime Broadband System (MBS). The MBS is a developing system for internet broadband services and consists of a communications satellite and two earth stations, which were installed on the ship and land. The communications satellite is "JCSAT-1B" that can provide faster transmission services than INMARSAT Fleet 77. A software system for real-time remote monitoring was developed as a prototype. In this prototype, the program code was written in Microsoft Visual C++ with DirectPlay APIs and the Client-Server communication model was adopted. In order to validate the proposed system, feasibility tests are carried out using T.S. Shioji-maru of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. The advantage as a new management tool for mercantile marine is discussed and problems en-countered on developing are reported.
