1. This work shows that the herein discussed intumescent systems Budit 3127 and Budit 3076 DCD based on ammonium polyphosphate can be used as very efficient flame retardants for polyethylene and polypropylene. 2. Small particle size APP (FR CROS S10), which is used in the Budit 3127 broadens the application for APP in fibres and thin films. 3. The coating of the APP in the Budit 3127 improves the resistance against the shear forces at higher temperatures during the extrusion process. Temperatures up to 220 °C are possible. 4. The blending of the polymer with the additives by extrusion and further processing by injection moulding has been improved by coating technology. A special coating technology was successfully applied to the Budit 3076 DCD. 5. The stability of Budit 3076 DCD towards water is significantly increased. This property can be used in applications where the polypropylene has to fulfill special technical requirements.
