For the first time, Honda has independently developed a new turbo chargeddiesel engine (intelligent- Common Rail Turbocharged Direct injection: hereafter I-CTDi).Through the application of a DOHC four-valve direct injection system and a high-pressureturbo charger, this I-CTDi engine achieves both high power output and high fuel economy.Also, through the utilization of a new 1600 bar common rail control system, an EGR coolersystem and after-treatment device, this engine has conformed to the Euro-IV regulations at anearly stage.The new Accord for Europe, which uses this new engine, is powerful yet achieves the highquality cabin sound and low vibration levels, associated with a luxury vehicleThis report discusses noise and vibration reduction by applying a 2nd order-vibration balancerand combustion noise reduction by optimizing pilot injection as well as via the application ofa principal axis of inertia type mounting system with torque rods.
