The Origin of the Amethyst vein of Maissau (Austria)

The observed zones in the amethyst vein of Maissau formed at different fluid conditions, including its chemistry. The amethyst (with an increased Fe content) originated from a variable saline fluid. During subsequent growth of clear and smoky quartz formation conditions stabilized, as reflected by T_m and T_h values.
