Increasing the Coherence between Human Beings and Virtual Agents

The importance of an awareness model for a CSCW Environment has been underwritten by many studies and much interesting research has been undertaken in this research area. On the other hand, it is fundamental for an agent to have "knowledge" about its surroundings. This knowledge is embedded in the agent's internal representation of the environment, in every moment. This paper tries to find how to endow a virtual agent with this "knowledge" by making use of an awareness model. The main goal of this work is to increase the physical and physiological realism of current awareness measures used in multi-user virtual environments, which means to introduce a higher level of coherence between people in real life and active agents and semi-autonomous avatars showed in a virtual environment.
