Traffic conditions are one of the factors influencing a city's appeal. In urban areas traffic is also considered a problem. Public discussion focuses on drawbacks related to the environment and safety. An efficient transport system facilitates connections between different functions. However, urban sprawl can ensue if cohesion is lacking. The spread of cars can result in increased transport difficulties for many people. Helsinki has chosen a transport policy which emphasizes public transport. Residents are also quite satisfied with the current level of public transport.
