Decision support system for the early phase of the automotive development process

Cost validation at the end of the design stage is of critical importance for the automotive industry. This paper focuses on the development of a methodology for cost analysis of new designs at that phase of the automotive Product Development Process (PDP). The development of a generic Decision Support System (DSS) to facilitate the design process will also be discussed. The DSS is aimed at providing the Design Department with an option to compare relative cost of the new design concepts and to assist with the cost reduction in the early phase of product development.
