Although nearly one year has passed since the First China National Symposium on Karst Tourism was held in Xingwen, Sichuan, the influence of the symposium on Xingwen and even the entire karst region is far- reaching and great. The proceedings of the symposium, which are an embodiment of the painstaking efforts of numerous geoscientists and tourism experts, appear on the occasion of the convening of the First International Conference on Geoparks. This is a precious gift form the experts and the people of Xingwen to the conference."Shihai Dongxiang- a wonder under the heaven". Xingwen enjoys a reputation as "Shihai Dongxiang",which means"stone sea and cave hometown", where there are a great variety of tourism resources of excellent quality.
