A Method of Improving OCR-Input Efficiency;Improvement based on Enlarging Some Original Documents

With regard to 55% of the whole English abstracts published in Japan,OCR processing will become more efficient than human punching,depending on adjustment of character deepness and size under manipulating character-scanner installed in OCR system. The purpose of this study is to confirm if enlarging the original character as a pre-treatment in OCR Processing leads to successful result, through the examination under consideration of different document groups as input sources.The significance between originalsize copy data and enlarged copy data was confirmed clearly on statistical test. As a conclusion, the following fact should be emphasized:that is,if the articles being liable to be suitable for OCR processing(more than 70% of the whole articles) can be relieved by recieving benefit based on "the time required for confirming and correcting the words to be confirmed and corrected " of about one minute due to enlarged copy technology, the efficiency of the OCR processing for this articles group will be superior to competitive power of professional human punching.
