One of the methods for engineering structure reinforcement is superimposing composite materials in the form of lamella. However, the effect of this reinforcement is limited because of the sensitivity of composites to stress corrosion. This paper is concerned with changes of compliance and durability of GRP composite, which can be used for reinforcing engineering structures under the stress corrosion conditions. The phenomenon was investigated by acoustic emission method. It was found that the changes in the composite compliance are in proportion to the number of acoustic events. Moreover, it was proved that under constant load and corroding environment conditions, failure took place when the number of acoustic events was equal to their critical value. The critical value of acoustic emission signals is only slightly affected by the environment concentration and load. In addition it was stated that number acoustic emission events are in proportion to compliance increasing and hence to evaluation of reinforcement effect degradation.
