This study dealt with influence of silane treatment of Al(OH)_3 particle on mechanical properties of hydrothermal aged A1(OH)_3 particle/vinylester composites. Al(OH)_3 particles were treated by silane solution with different concentration, and composite plates were molded by using these fillers. The specimens were immersed in water at 95℃, and bending test was performed after immersion. Acoustic emission was monitored during the bending test in order to clarify fracture behavior. Silane concentration influenced the strength reduction due to hydrothermal aging, and lower silane concentration induced greater strength reduction. However, strength reduction did not depend on the silane concentration in case of the specimen with silane concentration over 0.9wt%. The amount of silane chemically bonded on filler surface increased with increasing the silane concentration, however, it reached saturation at 0.9wt% silane concentration. Therefore strength reduction due to hydrothermal aging can be improved by increasing the amount of chemically bonded silane on filler surface.
