This paper discusses procedures and problems associated with the installation of up tornnine (9) electrolytic tiltmeter sensors in twelve separate casings to remotely monitor thernshoring of two deep excavations at the New Natomas and the South River Pump Stations,rnin Sacramento, CA. The paper discusses the installation and monitoring procedures. Itrndetails some of the problems that were encountered during the setup and monitoringrnperiods, both logistical and operator induced. The attempts to address the problems,rnwhether successful or unsuccessful, are discussed. The paper concludes by addressing ourrnability to overcome these problems and meet our objective to use the data collected tornmonitor shoring stability, identify construction related issues and alert the contractor tornpotential problems in near real time.
