Mill 5 is a twin wire machine making liner and medium grades. The retention aid chemicals are managed by predictive control using multivariate process modelling. This presentation will outline the strategy and functionality of the control logic, the instruments required for WWS measurement, and the outcomes and benefits of control. The control model understands and uses process constraints and complex interactions to exploit all opportunities to maximise desired objectives. Reliable and accurate white water consistency measurement is a fundamental input to the control model. Objectives such as reduced energy usage, improved runnability, machine stability and process efficiency are achieved.
