COMPACT REMOTE OPERATOR CONSOLE DEVELOPMENT, DEPLOYMENTS, AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

The compact remote operator consolern(CRC) was developed to facilitate the use ofrnremote equipment in operations such asrnhazardous waste cleanup. It is portable and canrnreplace larger, more expensive control roomsrnwhile maintaining nearly the same functionalityrnand comfort. It has been used successfullyrnseveral times within the Department of Energy tornsupport remote system deployments. Userrnacceptance has been high, and cost data indicaternthat the CRC is about an order of magnitude lessrnexpensive than a conventional control room. ThernCRC was commercialized in August 2001 and isrnnow being produced by Agile Engineering ofrnKnoxville, Tennessee. Two commercial unitsrnhave been sold, and the design was recentlyrnenhanced.
