DECOMMISSIONING THE DOUNREAY FAST REACTOR IN THE UK

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authorityrn(UKAEA) has built and operated a wide range of nuclearrnfacilities, on various sites throughout the UK, for therndevelopment of all aspects of atomic energy research.rnCurrently UKAEA’s mission is to restore, in arnresponsible and safe manner, the environment of its sites,rnincluding the decommissioning and removal of allrnredundant facilities. At its site in Scotland, the DounreayrnFast Reactor (DFR), is being decommissioned inrnaccordance with the Dounreay Site Restoration Plan. (1)rnThis paper discusses two of the keyrndecommissioning activities that are being undertaken atrnDFR using a strategy of Alliancing with specialistrncompanies.
