摘要

Many recent developments including optical fibre elements as a physical medium have shown the potential and capabilities of transmitting light as to speed up the process. The approach presented in this paper is a non-contact and non-detrimental optical fibre sensor based method which is developed for measuring and inspecting the surface topography of aluminium and steel components. The system will be designed and built according to their characteristics or specifications. The output measurements obtained from this method are correlated with the surface topography parameters to characterize surface finish. This is to obtain on-line 3D surface images through software manipulations, where it will then be used to get other related surface parameters.
