Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is progressive manufacturing method nowadays. The range ofmaterials that are currently possible to process is limited by available materials in powder form anddemands of research, which is needed for the process optimization of chosen material. Currently themost used materials are stainless and tool steels, titanium and aluminium alloys. Casting aluminiumalloys, namely AlSi10Mg and AlSi12, are mainly used for the SLM process. Mechanical properties ofthese alloys are not suitable for some industrial applications. The proposed paper describes thefabrication and the characterization of the high strength aluminium alloy EN AW 2618 processed bySLM. The research was aimed to describe behaviour of the material depending on processparameters (laser power, scanning speed, hatch distance). Processability of material was studiedusing single track scans, thin walls and volume cubes. The relative density and defects of the materialwere investigated.
