Regardless of the broad applicability of OMS in different plastics applications there is still a need for better understanding of the way how those additives work in dependence on concentration, polymers used or what changes their behaviour having other materials such as pigments or fillers in the polymer material distributed as well. Employing different analytical methods the XPS seems to be one of the very suitable tools to help to understand the distribution of organomodified siloxanes in polymer bulk phases. The versatility and usefulness of organomodified siloxanes could be demonstrated in a variety of applications, for the improvement of the processing as well as enhancement of the final properties of polymer compounds. The success factor for this class of additives is to achieve a good and balanced compatibility. If so beneficial effects on surface properties such as better scratch resistance, lowering the coefficient of friction and modifying the surface energy of compounds, as well as improved bulk properties such as higher Izod values, tensile strength and others can be achieved. Therefore, high-performance OMS additives are well suited for use in the development of compounds with various desired properties. They are a valuable tool for innovation in a competitive environment and we are sure where are many discoveries still waiting to be made.
