SEARCH FOR GRBS AND X-RAY FLASHES IN THE X-RAY MONITOR ON INTEGRAL

We report on the search for γ-ray bursts and X-ray flashes in the 3-35 keV energy range in the field of view of the X-ray monitor, JEM-X on board the INTEGRAL mission. The JEM-X X-ray monitor is a coded mask telescope co-aligned with the main γ-ray instruments on INTEGRAL. The standard imaging mode enables searches for bursts with time scales down to about 10 ms. We describe the results of the off-line search for weak GRBs and X ray flashes in the X ray band during the first year of operations. The inclusion of the JEM X instrument in the realtime INTEGRAL Burst Alert System (IBAS) is also discussed.
