摘要

The galleys on board the Royal Navy's future aircraft carrier will cater for approximately 1500 personnel and will be required to sustain operations around the clock to meet the operational demands of the ship. This paper explains how the application of human factors has been integral to the design process in order to optimise the compartment layout, minimise food safety hazards and determine the number of galley personnel required. Task analysis was used to assess the workload in the galley and a link analysis was conducted to optimise layout. End-user representatives were consulted throughout to ensure the validity of the studies. The principal output from the work was the implementation of a number of design improvements concerning layout, equipment and storage.
