Resistive heating of soils is a novel heating mehtod where electrodes are palced in the ocntaminated site, and the voltage increases the temerpature of the subsurafce to over 100 deg C.under this high temeprature the target ocntaiminants are solubilized and oxidized to less hazardous forms. It has been successfully used for the in situ remediation of contaminated sub-suface sites tha thave a large fraction of dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPL).
