Total health and safety management in mineral industries

摘要

The author present, the concept of Total Health and Safety Management (TSM) for implementation at the mine/company level. TSM basically implies "health and safety" integrated at all levels of operation. Near-miss health and safety incident investigations and utilization of their results for the enhancement of health and safety, forms the backbone of this concept. Ongoing education and training at all levels, with emphasis on on-the-job safe working procedures and hazard recognition, are considered a very important part of this concept. Furthermore, academic institutions can play a very supportive role in TSM implementation and maintaining hyghly competitive minerals industries.
