A Video Approach to Knowledge Management

The scientific exploration of our Solar System often requires scientific missionsrnthat span a period of sometimes two decades. During this period, a spacecraft andrninstrumentation is designed, built, flown wide into the Solar System, operated, the data analyzedrnand archived. The preservation of human expertise and all further needed information is arnchallenge for all teams involved in these missions. For the International Rosetta Mission a VideornApproach was proposed, designed and is currently implemented. The authors present the overallrnRosetta knowledge management approach, in particular the design and implementation of thernVideo Approach. It is shown that this approach is well suited as a complementary approach tornthe standard knowledge management implementations and can refresh and preserve additionalrnknowledge. Sometimes this video approach is the only way within the time and cost frameworkrnof the teams involved to preserve significant parts of their expertise.
