Use of Remote Systems for Testing Radiation Detection Devices

Over the past several years the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) at the Savannah River Site (SRS) has provided radiation detection device testing for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and other federal agencies. Numerous remote systems and equipment such as source shielding devices, pop-up shielding devices, and remote positioning equipment have been developed for use in supporting testing of prototype and novel radiation detection devices. The prototype detection devices being tested range from small handheld devices to large systems capable of scanning Inter Modal Cargo Containers (IMCCs).
