To realize the savings in capital and operating cost obtainable from new configurations and larger capacity LNG plants, it is necessary to maintain the high reliability and availability of the existing plant operation. For larger capacity plants it is of paramount importance to properly select the equipment type and configuration, i.e., large capacity drivers/compressors in series or smaller ones in parallel, two trains vs. three trains plants, interconnection between trains, etc. required to minimize lost production. Similarly, careful consideration has to be given to the use of spare equipment/instrumentation to minimize capital cost while maintaining high operating levels.
