This paper discusses the variables that are evaluated in the selection of a high performance magnetic component, and how these components can be marketed into a production situation with reduced lead time. Form, fit and function are the basic requirements for a specific transformer design to be streamlined. In addition to those factors, it is important to know how many units will be built and at what cost trade-offs are acceptable. While many design options exist, the examples that are discussed are intended to illustrate some "nonstandard" configurations which are cost effective in large volume consumer and heavy industrial applications where safety and producibility are critical considerations.
