The quality of lube base oil is the key factor influencing the lubricant performance. With worldwide technology development, stricter lube specifications for moving machine have been established, promoting up the qualities of lube products. Highlight has been given to the multi-grade lube products for its good energy-saving benefits. Therefore it is increasingly important to develop new technology for the production of high quality lube base oil. Some of refineries adapt high sulfur crude oils from Mid-Easten area, like Arab light, Iranian light to produce both transportation fuels and lubricating oils from economic view of whole factory. The experiment indicated that it was very difficult to make high quality base oil (VI>=95) from fractions of Iranian crude oil by conventional technology i.e. solvent refining-solvent dewaxing-clay treatment and/or hydrofinishing. This paper reported the results of combined processes ( RLT technology) consisting of hydrotreating under medium pressure and conventional process for the production of HVI base oils (VI >= 95) from Iranian light crude.
