RACE-T Experimental ActivitiesA Complete Overview of the Different Subcritical Measurement Techniques

In the period between February 2004 – Februaryrn2006, in view of the past TRADE project and thernsubsequent RACE experiment planned in the frame of thernEUROTRANS Integrated Program of the 6th EuropeanrnFramework Program, different experimental activitiesrnwere carried out in the 1 MW TRIGA reactor operated byrnENEA in his Casaccia Research Center near Rome. Inrnthat time the reactor operation was mainly in sub-criticalrnconditions, with the exception of the critical referencerncore assessment at the beginning of the campaign wherernthe maximum power was 50 W. The RACE-T campaignrnincludes fission rate measurements (performed with arnspecial instrumented fuel element,) investigation ofrndifferent sub-critical configurations (with D/T generatorrnin the core center,) and development of special devotedrninstrumentation and acquisition systems. The mainrnoutcomes of the intense experimental campaign will bernillustrated.
