REVIEWOF PHOTONUCLEAR CROSS SECTIONS

We provide an overview of recent efforts to creaternextensive library of photonuclear cross sections. Anrninternational project under the auspices of the IAEArnproduced the library of photonuclear cross sections forrn164 isotopes (43 elements), mostly up to 140 MeV. Thisrnuseful initial work served as the basis for the first USrnphotonuclear cross-section library that is part of the newrnUS Evaluated Nuclear Data File for nuclear science andrntechnology, ENDF/B-VII.0, released in December 2006.rnWe also briefly discuss future needs and challenges.rnAmong them are measurements with tagged photons,rnstrengthening of compilation, more extensive validation,rnand the need of better data for detection of explosives andrnactive interrogation of special nuclear materials.
