摘要

It has been proved by cognitive psychology that human beings, based on all kinds of senses and transmission models, capture, organize and spread information through multiple media rather than single one or isolated ones. The rate and intensity of multi-dimensional geospatial information cognition and transmission are much more than that of traditional text, figures and static images or graphics. With the rapid development of computer techniques and introduction of cognitive psychology, multimedia electronic maps, which integrates maps, text, digits, images, animation, sound, video, has extended the cognitive capability of mankind to become the frontier and initiative of modem cartography. In the paper, we will mainly deal with the characters, organization and modeling, and representation of multimedia geo-spatial Information with examples of Tibet Multimedia Electronic Atlas and Yuxi Hypermedia Electronic Atlas for Tourists.
