The distance of midblock crosswalks directly influences traffic flow stability andrnoperating efficiency. Considering the present situation of urban transportation inrnChina, the reasonable distance of midblock unsignalized crosswalks was studiedrncombined with the characteristics of vehicle traffic flow and pedestrian flow. In thernpeak hour traffic environment, eleven kinds of pedestrian crossing distance wererndesigned (150m~400m, gap is 25m) in simulation model Vissim. Data of averagernspeed time series, vehicular delay and pedestrian delay under time scales of 1s, 5srnand 10s were obtained. The largest Lyapunov index of average speed time series wasrnused to identify the influence of crosswalk distance over vehicle traffic flow stability.rnVehicular delay and pedestrian delay were utilized to reflect the relationship amongrnthe distance of midblock crosswalks, vehicle flow efficiency and pedestrian crossingrnefficiency. This research takes the midblock management mechanism intornconsideration, balances the relationship among traffic flow stability, efficiency andrnpedestrian efficiency, and puts forward the recommended midblock crosswalkrndistance.
