A new method is presented in the paper to automatically recognize and eliminate regular noise in prestack 3D seismic data. Regular noise in prestack 3D seismic data distributes in hyperbolic, while in 2D seismic data, it distributes in linear events. If we take 3D and 2D geometries into account uniformly in order to treat 2D data as the specific case of 3D data during the recognition of regular noise, the regular noise with hyperbolic events in prestack 3D seismic data can be considered as that possessing linear features. Then the regular noise in prestack 3D seismic data can be eliminated in a similar way that is applied in prestack 2D seismic data. The proposed method automatically recognizes and eliminates regular noise point by point and adapts to the change of apparent velocity of regular noise in prestack data. Several applications of field data proved the effectiveness of the method in eliminating regular noise in 3D shot records.
