摘要

This paper describes a simulation study of CDTI symbologies designed for trajectory-based operations of small aircraft. Although presenting a pilot with traffic information enhances situation awareness and enables self-separation, it may increase workload and affect other tasks. A series of pilot-in-the-loop flight simulations was carried out to investigate the relationship between traffic awareness and workload. Two types of separation symbology were devised and compared in manually flown tasks with self-sequencing and self-separation. The results show that although the newly introduced symbologies were accepted by the pilots, they did not reduce pilot interactions with the CDTI - on the contrary, pilots tended to pay more attention to the CDTI, sometimes resulting in degraded flight path tracking performance.
