We have fabricated SGDBR lasers using QWI, and have investigated the effect of injection efficiency and wavelength detuning in the mirror sections on the DBR tuning efficiency. The effects of these two parameters were decoupled using a logarithmic current density/carrier density model. It was shown that larger injection efficiency and reduced wavelength detuning increases the overall DBR tuning range, as expected. This demonstrates the applicability of QWI to fabricate current injection tuned lasers, and provides a powerful processing platform for integrating widely-tunable lasers with other components on chip for future PICs.
