摘要

The water supply stress index (WSSI) is a model uniquely suitable for assessing the combination of natural and anthropogenic impacts on water availability. Although climate is the single largest controller of water stress, localized water stress is heavily influenced by human activities such at crop irrigation. Future work with this model should examine how alternative water management activities could most effectively reduce localized chronic and episodic water stress. Continued climate and demographic changes across the US will only increase the potential for future water stress areas. Current dependency on aquifer water to support water based economies and populations are not sustainability.
