The Emission Factor and Inventory Group (EFIG) in EPA;s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards is responsible for developing and maintaining tools for estimating air emissions. These tools include hardcopy reports such as AP-42, the Locating and Estimating (L&E) series of HAP reports, the Clearinghouse for Inventories ad Emission Factors (CHIEF) Newsletter, and FIRE SCC and Criteria Emission Factor Listing. Even though EFIG still publishes these hard copy versions, consumers increasingly access this information electronically. New versions of Air (CHIEF Compact Disc-Read Only Memory (CD-Rom) CD containing all of the above documents), Factor Inforamtion Retrieval Program (FIRE), and TANKS (calculation software for estimating VOC and HAP emissions from storage of organic liquids) were released by EFIG this year. Traditionally these products have been distributed by the Government Printing Office and the National Technical Information Service, but many users have migrated to online avernues of acquiring these products. The CHIEF Bulletin Board continues to service more than one-thousand calls per month with FIRE, TANKS, and sections of AP-42 being the primary targets. Fax CHIEF (a fax-back system) averages three-five hundred downloads per month. Taking advantage of the increased Internet availability, EFIG has opened a Tools home page and now offers the CHIEF newsletter via a list server (CHIEF). To data, the web site contains FIRE, CHIEF newsletter, and the Nationl Air Pollution Trends Report. The web site offers alternative access to the Transfer Technology Network as well.
