The broad area of blast modelling can be divided into flow regimes, each with different technical emphases and specially developed computational methods. In this paper high explosive (HE) will be taken as the blast source and the various blast flow regions are defined as follows: the detonics regime within the reactive material itself; the near-field expansion of detonation products (within the fireball); and, the mid-and far-field air shock-wave propagation. The mid-field is beyond the complexities of the detonation-product flow, yet often features non-uniform blast wave dynamics due to charge shape and energetics. In the far-field, the wave dynamics have subsided to a quasi-uniform one dimensional (1D) flow, yet the blast may still not be energy-scalable to reference blast standards such as that for uncased spherical TNT.
