Optimization of Dynamic Characteristic of Airbag Landing Impact Attenuation

The Airbag is one of the primary technologies of the landing impact attenuation. It has been used in the field of spaceflight, inflatable landing systems, airdropping equipment and so on. During the landing impact attenuation, the dynamic characteristic of airbag is affected by many parameters, such as the area of vent, initial pressure and height of the airbag. These parameters have been traditionally obtained by experiment with bad quality. So this method confined the applications of the airbag. In this paper, the dynamic model of the airbag is developed based on the analytical method and numerical experiment. An optimization procedure based on the genetic algorithm is proposed to searching the key parameters of the airbag dynamic characteristic. The results of experiment demonstrated that the proposed method gives an optimal design of airbag with reducing experiment times and cutting down experiment cost. The method could be also used in the field of other airdrop protections.
