The promotion of Western Region Development is a significant strategic arrangement, which is closely related to the overall situation of China national economic and social development, nationalities unity and borderland stability. One topic of Western Region Development is to realize the transition strategy of mineral resources in the west and to develop the western mining industry. The western region is extensive in territory and rich in mineral resources. Among the 130 minerals that have been found in China, more than 30 are in the west, ranking first national wide. It also has vast reserves of petroleum and natural gas, thus making it an important energy base in China. In addition, it also has rich reserves of solid minerals such as iron, copper, nickel, tin, gold, silver, vanadium, titanium, chromium, lithium, manganese and potassium, etc. Therefore it is a crucial backup resources base in China.
