The paper presents a hybrid excited electric machine with permanent embedded magnets and excitation windings in the rotor structure to electric vehicle drivers. Finite element analysis (FEA) of the proposed machine design has been used to analyse a field-control capability under different field currents. According to simulating research a prototype machine has been designed, built and tested. Experimental results of back-emf and the cogging torque waveforms achieved at different DC field excitation current have been compared with FEA results.
